Following Friday’s usability testing sessions for my second year students here a couple of follow-up articles that raise some interesting issues regarding the pros and cons of user centred design.
- User-Led Innovation Can’t Create Breakthroughs; Just Ask Apple and Ikea
- This article asks the user to butt out, leaving the creativity to the designer.
- 4 forgotten principles of usability testing
- This article proposes 4 ideas for successful user testing.
The very fact that the first article uses Apple as an example makes me smile. IPad 2, designed with user feedback, ie. where’s the bloody camera you numpties?
Despite most groups turning up un-prepared (no script, no tasks, no exit survey, no clue), it’s hoped that you all got something out of your testing session. Now that you do know what to do, you can do it all again as your product (the conference centre web site) develops.
