Above the fold

For my second year students, following the ‘writing for the web’ lecture the other week Jakob Nielsen’s Alertbox for March 22 may be of interest:

Summary:
Web users spend 80% of their time looking at information above the page
fold. Although users do scroll, they allocate only 20% of their attention
below the fold.
